Singer Sean Kingston jailed 3 and half years in federal prison for wire fraud

Jamaican singer Sean Kingston was given a 42-month sentence in federal prison in the United States after being found guilty in a wire fraud case.

The decision was made in a Florida courtroom on Friday, August 15, months after Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted of masterminding a scam that ripped companies out of over $1 million.

Kingston was given a sentence that was in the middle of what his attorneys and federal prosecutors wanted, with a potential penalty of 6 years in prison.

His legal team had pleaded with the court to impose a term of two to two-and-a-half years, indicating that his initial clean record and community service efforts. Prosecutors, however, had pushed for a sentence closer to the statutory maximum.

According to court documents, the couple cooked up a story about transferring money to buy jewelry, expensive cars, and other expensive goods, but they never paid for them and kept the stuff instead.
