NBC Today co-anchor Sheinelle Jones is grieving the tragic death of her spouse, Uche Ojeh, who died at 45 following a brave fight against glioblastoma — a fierce and destructive type of brain cancer.
The sad news was announced during Friday’s episode of the Today show, where co-host Savannah Guthrie delivered the revelation with profound emotion.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” Guthrie said. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him… Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”

Uche Ojeh was not only a cherished husband and father — he was also a valued consultant at UAO Consulting, where he was employed for more than ten years.
He and Sheinelle had a lovely love story that started when she was a freshman at Northwestern University, working as a campus tour guide, while he was a senior in high school visiting.
That unexpected encounter grew into a romance that lasted for almost twenty years. The pair got married in 2007 and brought up three kids together.
His passing signifies a profound personal loss for Jones, who has been on hiatus from the Today show since December.
In January, she announced that she was stepping back to manage a personal family health issue, now understood to be connected to her husband’s condition.
Colleague Craig Melvin recounted heartfelt memories of Ojeh during the broadcast, portraying him as a “hands-on father” who attended every soccer match, recital, and school performance.

“He loved those kids more than anything in the world,” Melvin said. “He was proud. He was that guy — the one cheering on the sidelines.”
